DATE: 20th March 2024 - 20th March 2024
TIME: 2pm - 4 pm
VENUE: Swedenborg House Gallery
CURATOR/S: Stephen McNeilly
SPEAKER/S: Alex Murray, James Wilson
Join the Swedenborg Society’s archivist, Alex Murray, and editor and former librarian, James Wilson, for a special talk focusing on one of the archival objects on display in the new exhibition, Swedenborg’s Lusthus: On Memory and Place.
Alex and James will speak about the intriguing stories behind the piece of bark collected from a poplar tree that stood in Swedenborg’s garden, the collecting of ‘Swedenborgiana’, and the dynasty of early Swedenborgian printers who published the first lithographic illustrations of Swedenborg’s lusthus in 1853.
Built as a wooden retreat at the far end of his garden in Stockholm in 1747 and serving as a focal point for his writing and otherworldly conversations, Swedenborg’s lusthus has come to stand as an emblematic presence of his visionary legacy for over 250 years.
The talk is free, but space is limited. Please book by the button above or RSVP by emailing info@swedenborg.org.uk
