Published in 1769, Brief Exposition is a forerunner of the larger work The True Christian Religion, which appeared two years later. In Brief Exposition, Swedenborg addresses some of the key tenets of Christian doctrine, both Roman Catholic and Reformed, pointing out how the doctrine of the new church differs. Brief Exposition was only the second publication that Swedenborg commissioned an English translation of (the first being volume two of Arcana Caelestia).
